Sediment migrations drive the dynamic of macrobenthic ecosystems in subtidal sandy bedforms

چکیده

A traditional taxonomic approach coupled to a biological traits analysis was conducted in order provide new insight into macrobenthic communities associated with subtidal sandy environments. Results suggest that the macro-scale distribution of benthic is mainly driven by migration rate bedforms (sandbank, barchan dune and transversal dune) which changes sediment grain size reduces diversity. classic scheme species/traits succession also observed from less more physically disturbed areas. Finally, high frequency events homogenized between troughs crest bedforms. As areas are targeted for commissioning offshore windfarms information provided present paper will be particularly useful implement environmental impact assessment required such activities at sea.

Contrasting macrobenthic activities differentially affect nematode density and diversity in a shallow subtidal marine sediment

By bioturbating and bio-irrigating the sea floor, macrobenthic organisms transport organic matter and oxygen from the surface to deeper layers, thereby extending the habitat suitable for smaller infauna. Next to these engineering activities, competition, disturbance and predation may also affect the spatial distribution of these smaller organisms. In a controlled laboratory experiment, we studi...

Wave and sediment dynamics along a shallow subtidal sandy beach inhabited by modern stromatolites.

To help define the habitat of modern marine stromatolites, wave-dominated flow and sediment transport were studied in the shallow subtidal region (1-2 m depth) along the slightly concave, windward face of Highborne Cay, Exuma, Bahamas - the only face of the cay that includes a population of stromatolites concentrated near the region of highest curvature of the beach. Wave energy impacting this ...

Local scale processes drive long‐term change in biodiversity of sandy beach ecosystems

Evaluating impacts to biodiversity requires ecologically informed comparisons over sufficient time spans. The vulnerability of coastal ecosystems to anthropogenic and climate change-related impacts makes them potentially valuable indicators of biodiversity change. To evaluate multidecadal change in biodiversity, we compared results from intertidal surveys of 13 sandy beaches conducted in the 19...

the role of application of dynamic assessment approach in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels

the present study sought to investigate the role of dynamic assessment (da) in improvement of iranian efl writing performance at different language proficiency levels. to this end, after conducting the quick placement test, 60 iranian efl learners were assigned to two groups with different language proficiency levels. in both groups each participant wrote two compositions, one before and one af...

Spatial structure of the microbial community in sandy carbonate sediment

The environmental conditions in permeable carbonate sands are in many ways different from those in fine-grained sediments, but little is known about how this affects the structure and composition of the microbial community. We studied the microbial community structure in relation to the geochemical zonation within a 4 m2 patch of a sandy carbonate sediment in Kane’ohe Bay, O’ahu, Hawaii. Porewa...
